i've had a few people ask me why i am so fascinated by insects lately
it's a fair question to ask
insects are strange little arthropods, so different from the mammals we love to love
even the mammals considered pests and vermin
have more fans than insects
i suppose that's exactly why i love them so much
they're complex, strange, alien little things,
who make the world we inhabit one worth living in
"but they're ugly!" people say,
"but they're gross!"
i have trouble sympathizing with such statements
it's not like flies asked to be born the way they were
imagine if you will
that you're born as a little buzzing bee,
happily buzzing from flower to flower
and someone is so horrified by you that they can't even stand to look at you,
even asking for a warning before beholding you
and then, as your thousands of sisters all die around you,
those same people rejoice at your apocalypse
i suppose a part of me just wants to make sure
that we don't create a future where the only place where we are able to see an insect
is behind the glass of a museum display
