On Art

Written December 7th, 2022

I've always had an eye for destruction

I like to watch colours dance and jitter uncomfortably against the naked eye

I enjoy what technology allows us to do, with destruction

but a part of me yearns for the clean creation of art,

something pure and untainted.

I feel like no matter how hard I reach, my art will never be nearly as pure

as what others can create.

I wonder, as I stare from outside the pure white glass,

Does Elysium come in 5,000 colours?

Do they dance, woven perfectly, not a strand out of sight?

Would coming close to it, diseased as I am, risk those colours unweaving?

Or maybe that destruction is its own kind of beauty?

Is a beautifully cooked salmon worth more than raw fish guts?

Is a butterfly more valuable than an earthworm?

Where does "beauty" end and "ugly" begin?

When is art fit for consumption, and when is it too ugly for human eyes to see?

Do the maggots in rotten meat know they are ugly?

Maybe to them, the meat is Elysium.
